Bio
Julia Reyes steps into the role of Head Women's Water Polo Coach at Cypress College with a wealth of experience and a deep passion for the sport. For the past three years, she worked alongside former Head Coach Mark Canner as his assistant, gaining valuable insight and contributing to the program's success. In addition to her new role at Cypress College, Reyes is in her first year as Head Coach at Marina High School. Before joining Marina, she led the Cypress High School water polo team from 2021 to 2024.
Reyes brings a strong playing background to her coaching career, having competed for four years at Arizona State University. As a Sun Devil, she was part of a nationally ranked program that consistently placed in the top 10, with an NCAA tournament appearance during her freshman year. She graduated from ASU with a degree in Educational Studies.
Her journey in water polo began at the age of 9 with the Cerritos Aquatics Club, and she continues to stay active in the sport, participating in masters water polo with the LA Athletic Club and ASU's alumni team. A standout athlete during her high school years at Cerritos High School, Reyes holds the records for most goals in a season and career, as well as most steals in program history. She was a three-time first-team All-League and All-CIF selection, earning All-American Honorable Mention honors as a junior. Additionally, Reyes was part of three consecutive CIF championships with the Don's swim team, setting a division record in the 200 Free Relay.
Coach Reyes is dedicated to inspiring young athletes to develop a love for water polo and build their confidence both in and out of the pool. Her vision is to strengthen the Water Polo community while guiding her players to success in the sport and beyond.
