
No. 10 Cypress Upsets No. 7 Moorpark to Advance to SoCal Regional Finals
Historic Upset: Chargers Break Decades-Long Barrier to Reach SoCal Regional Finals
MOORPARK, CA - The No. 10 Cypress Chargers made history Saturday night, defeating No. 7 Moorpark 81-65 on the road in the second round of the SoCal Regionals. The victory marks the program's first trip past the second round since the early 1990s Don Johnson era, solidifying a major milestone in Cypress basketball history.
The Chargers took control early and never looked back, building a lead as large as 20 points late in the second half. Michael Wright led the way with 18 points, six rebounds, and five assists, while Vincent Albertini dominated the paint with a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double. Higgy Katoa added 15 points, and James Christian III provided a spark off the bench with nine points, hitting three shots from beyond the arc.
UP NEXT: The Chargers now set their sights on No. 2 Citrus, where they will battle for a spot in the 3C2A State Tournament Elite 8 on Saturday, March 8, at 7:00 p.m.
