Chargers Hold Off Tigers' Late Surge
CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress Chargers Women's Volleyball team triumphed over the Riverside City Tigers in an impressive three-set sweep, taking the match 25-20, 25-23, 25-15.
The Chargers started slowly, initially trailing Riverside, but long rallies brought them back in contention. Zoe Ziegler powered a kill down the middle to tie the score at 11-11, giving Cypress the momentum they needed. Soon after, Hannah Higuera's quick response put the Chargers in their first lead at 12-11. Both teams battled point-for-point until Cypress started to pull away, reaching 21-19. An error by Riverside into the net handed the Chargers the set, 25-20.
In the second set, the Chargers came out strong with a 4-0 run, but Riverside pushed back, capitalizing on a few Charger errors to claw their way to a 22-22 tie. However, Ziegler was clutch once again, slamming the final kill to secure the set for Cypress, 25-23.
The third and final set saw Cypress surge ahead early, establishing an insurmountable lead. Dominating offensively, they closed out the set comfortably at 25-15, sealing the match.
Zoe Ziegler led the way with an outstanding 17 kills, 4 solo blocks, and 2 block assists. Rylee McFarlane and Keilyn Flores anchored the defense with 13 digs each, while Audrey Perez delivered from the service line with 4 aces.
UP NEXT: The Chargers will travel to Orange Coast College on Friday, November 8. The match is set to begin at 6:00 pm.
