CYPRESS, CA - The top-ranked Cypress Chargers women's soccer team kept their undefeated streak alive with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Golden West, thanks to a clutch goal by Gritsey Ramirez in the final minutes.
The Rustlers struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the first half. However, Kristine Ramirez responded for the Chargers with a brilliant long-range shot from the left side, sending the ball sailing over the goalkeeper and into the net, tying the match 1-1 heading into halftime.
Golden West regained the lead early in the second half on a penalty shot, going up 2-1. But the Chargers remained unfazed. Jessica Rosalino Vicente answered with a perfectly executed cross that slipped past the Rustlers' keeper, tying the game at 2-2.
The Chargers dominated the second half, outshooting Golden West 10-2. With less than five minutes remaining, Jennifer Arteaga delivered a pinpoint cross into the box, where Itzel Ramirez connected on a header attempt that hit the post and stayed in play. Gritsey Ramirez was in the right spot at the right time, securing the rebound and firing it into the net for the game-winning goal.
UP NEXT: The victory keeps Cypress undefeated as they now prepare for a key conference showdown on the road against Santiago Canyon on Friday, October 18th at 3 PM. With both teams competing for the top spot in the Orange Empire Conference standings, this matchup could decide the conference leader.
