
Chargers Take Sixth in Pasadena Invitational
Cypress Finishes in Sixth at Pasadena Invitational
PASADENA, CA - Cypress Women's Swim and Dive showed consistency and came up with sixth at the Pasadena Invitational. The women had a score of 247.
The Cypress women's team started with the 200 yard freestyle relay consisted of Brooke Shiohama, Isabelle Neri, Valentine Gardea, and Marilyn Rodriguez. The relay team received seventh place with a time of 2:00:16. Following the relays was the 500 yard freestyle where Karly Lepel took second place with a 6:01.83. Following Lepel was Isabelle Neri who competed in the 200 yard IM and got a time of 2:38.09. Neri secured fifth place and kept similar times to what she has been earning all year. In the popular 50 yard freestyle event there was some friendly competition for fourteenth between Marilyn Rodriguez and Brooke Shiohama. The two battled back and forth with Rodriguez coming out on top just by .03 seconds and a time of 29.21. In the 200 yard freestyle Valentine Cardea secured tenth place with a time of 2:36.36. She was able to show off her incredible streamline off the wall. In the 100 yard butterfly Isabelle Neri posted a time of 1:08.82 and got third place. During her race she was able to keep her arms swinging the whole time. Karly Lepel participated in the 200 yard backstroke and got a time of 2:36.66. Lepel had a strong start off the block and utilized her kicks to obtain second place. Marilyn Rodriguez kept her momentum going in the 100 yard breaststroke with a eleventh place finish and a time of 1:28.05. Rodriguez had a strong pull and reach during her race. When it came to diving Brooke Shiohama participated in the 1 meter. Brooke finished in fourth and had a score of 105.60. The Cypress relay team also did the 200 yard medley relay and finished fifth with a 2:14.11. Isabelle Neri wasn't done with the meet yet as she had a 400 yard IM. Neri had a tough race but overcame adversity to get fourth place and a time of 5:35.23. Karly Lepel continued to impress in the 100 yard backstroke with a fast turnover rate. Lepel had a fifth place finish and a 1:14.70. Valentine Gardea had a 1:31.35 and a nineteenth place finish in the 100 yard backstroke. She struggled at the start but was able to come back stronger towards the end of the race. In the other popular race of the 100 yard freestyle Marilyn Rodriguez, Karly Lepel, Brooke Shiohama, and Valentine Gardea all faced each other. Rodriguez came up on top with a ninth place finish and a 1:02.32. In the 200 yard breaststroke Marilyn Rodriguez had a 3:16.82 and another ninth place finish. In the last few events Isabelle Neri had a standout moment when she earned first place in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:38.81. The relay team had their last relay and got sixth place with a 4:30.14. The team was able to stay consistent throughout the season and better their chances for the next meet.
