CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College Chargers fended off a late-game surge by the Mt. San Antonio Mounties to earn a hard-fought 16-11 victory at home on Tuesday.
The Chargers started hot, scoring 13 runs in the first five innings, fueled by an outstanding performance from first baseman Justin Tillar, who went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with six RBIs. On the mound, pitchers Luke Wobrock and Rocky Palacio kept the Mounties in check through the early innings, allowing just one earned run over six innings.
Defensive miscues in the later innings opened the door for Mt. San Antonio, who capitalized by scoring 10 runs in the final three frames. The Mounties' surge brought them within striking distance, but the Chargers held their ground with a three-run seventh inning and timely pitching down the stretch to seal the victory.
In addition to Tillar's heroics, Travis Curry contributed with two RBIs, including a solo home run, while Dylan Radaszewski also drove in two runs to round out the offensive effort.
UP NEXT: The Chargers will be home facing the Merced Blue Devils on Friday, February, 7th.
