Chargers defeat Huskies in Game 2, 14-1
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College Chargers continued their postseason dominance with a resounding 14-1 victory over East Los Angeles College on Saturday, clinching a spot in the 2025 3C2A Super Regional Playoffs.
Led by an explosive seven-run seventh inning and a solid pitching staff, Cypress (33-9) stunned the Huskies (19-22) to complete the sweep in the SoCal Regional round.
Freshman Justin Tillar made history in Game 1 of the series, breaking the Cypress single-season home run record—a mark that had stood since 1997. Tillar's record-setting blast added to a long list of accolades in a stellar campaign.
Cypress totaled 14 runs on 11 hits while drawing nine walks. Bradley Navarro delivered three RBIs, while Dustin Robinson, Evan Rolbiecki, Nate Norman, and Tillar each drove in multiple runs. Robinson's three-run double in the seventh inning sealed the rout and put the game out of reach.
On the mound, Brandon Wyland picked up the win with six dominant innings, allowing just three hits while striking out two. The Cypress bullpen—Jayson Thomas, Amari Yolas, and Douglas Crystal—combined to close the door, allowing just one run across the final three innings.
Cypress took control in the middle innings, beginning with a five-run fourth that included Tillar's two-RBI single. The Chargers poured on seven more runs in the seventh.
UP NEXT: The Chargers (33-9) will look to begin the best-of-three series on Friday, May 9 when they host the Super Regionals.
