
Chargers Explode for 19 Runs in Series-Sweeping Win Over Hornets
Cypress Advances to SoCal Regional Finals
CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress College Baseball team delivered a dominant offensive performance to complete a series sweep over district-rival Fullerton, winning 19-11 and advancing to the SoCal Regional Finals.
The Chargers (36-9) erupted for 22 hits and scored in six of the nine innings, including three separate innings with 3+ runs, to put away the Hornets (23-23) and punch their ticket to the next round of the 3C2A postseason.
Sophomore outfielder Evan Rolbiecki had a breakout game, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs, including a triple and two walks. Dustin Robinson launched a three-run homer in the second inning and finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Nate Norman and Jacob Elliott each contributed three RBIs of their own in the blowout.
Cypress built a 10-0 lead by the fourth inning, but Fullerton responded with a late push, scoring nine runs between the sixth and seventh innings to cut the deficit to 16-11. However, Cypress tacked on three more in the eighth to seal the win.
Starting pitcher Cayden Bonura (W, 1-0) was solid through four innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits while striking out six. Douglas Crystal shut the door with 2.1 scoreless innings and six strikeouts in relief.
UP NEXT: Cypress will host the Palomar Comets for the SoCal Regional Finals in a best-of-three series starting Friday, May 16. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM at Cypress College. The winner will advance to the Final Four of the 3C2A State Tournament.
