Chargers Advance After Thriller, Set for Rival Showdown in Super Regionals
Cypress Defeats Grossmont, 11-9
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress Chargers Baseball team punched their ticket to the next round of the 3C2A Super Regionals after outlasting Grossmont College in a wild 11-9 win on Friday afternoon. With the victory, the Chargers advance to face district-rival Fullerton College in a best-of-three series starting Saturday, May 10 at Cypress College.
After Grossmont fell to Fullerton earlier in the day, the Griffins turned around to battle the top-seeded Chargers in a high-scoring affair. The game saw both teams trade big innings, but key home runs from Evan Rolbiecki and Justin Tillar helped fuel the Cypress offense. Tillar finished with 3 RBI, including a go-ahead homer in the 7th.
Despite some early defensive miscues, Cypress stayed composed. Relief pitcher Andrew Banda earned the win, and Jayson Thomas closed things out to seal the victory.
The Chargers and Hornets will now clash in a high-stakes weekend series to advance to the SoCal Regional Finals.
UP NEXT: Game 1 of the series begins Saturday, May 10 at 1:00 pm at Cypress College.
