Cypress Holds Off San Francisco CC in a 2-1 Victory
Great defense and a late goal by Cypress gives them the win over San Francisco
CYPRESS, CA – A quick start and a late-game winner lifted the Cypress College Chargers to a 2–1 win over San Francisco City College on Sunday afternoon, pushing the team to another hard-earned victory.
The Chargers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Just under two minutes into the match, Alexa Green opened the scoring with a composed finish off a clean assist from Briselda Tellez, giving Cypress early momentum.
San Francisco responded with a goal of their own later in the second half, but Cypress never lost control of the match. The backline stayed composed, and goalkeeper Emily Peñaloza remained rock-solid in net. She faced four total shots, making three key saves and allowing just one goal to keep the Chargers in the fight.
The game-winner came in the 81st minute when Jasmin De La Torre delivered a precise assist to Layla Valle, who buried her only shot of the match into the back of the net to put Cypress up 2–1. From there, the Chargers saw the game out with disciplined play and tight defense.
Cypress also saw shots on goal from Angela Herrera, Tellez, and De La Torre, keeping the San Francisco defense under constant pressure.
