Chargers Lose at the Buzzer, 70-68
CYPRESS, CA- The men's basketball team (1-3) fell short against visiting San Diego Mesa (3-2) in a close battle with a final score of 70-68.
CYPRESS, CA- The men's basketball team (1-3) fell short against visiting San Diego Mesa (3-2) in a close battle with a final score of 70-68.
Grant Sii (13 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals), Cristian Butler (13 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals), and Hadi Essayli (10 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal).
The Chargers fell behind early in the game, and trailed the entire first half. Cypress gained back momentum going into halftime with a layup from Grant Sii, and the Chargers trailed 30-32 at half-time.
Cypress battled back in the second half and took their first lead of the game to make the score 44-43. Although, with the start of a whirlwind back-and-forth, Daron Traylor from San Diego Mesa made a long three to take the lead back over. Both teams battled, and with 23 seconds left, the game was tied at 64-64. Grant Sii made both free throws at 17 seconds left to put the Chargers ahead at 66-65, but Steve Stinson returned the favor at the other end putting San Diego Mesa back ahead with 10 seconds left. With an exciting press break, Grant Sii took the ball coast-to-coast and made a layup to put the Chargers ahead. However, Quajon Young won the game for San Diego Mesa with a buzzerbeater - making the final score 70-68.
UP NEXT: Men's basketball will travel to Mt. San Jacinto College on Saturday, November 19th. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
