Cypress Closes Regular Season With 3–0 Victory Over Santa Ana
With today's win, the Chargers secure 2nd place in the OEC.
CYPRESS, CA — The Cypress men's soccer team (13-3-5, 9-2-3 OEC) wrapped up its regular season on Friday afternoon, shutting out Santa Ana (3-11-7, 2-7-5 OEC) 3–0 behind a balanced attacking performance and a rock-solid defensive effort.
The Chargers controlled the tempo from the opening whistle, outshooting Santa Ana 16–5 and keeping the Dons' attack largely contained. Cypress broke through in the 31st minute when Cristiano Flores buried a setup from Issac Morales to put the Chargers on top 1–0, a lead they carried into halftime.
Cypress continued to apply pressure in the second half, finally doubling the advantage in the 72nd minute. Diego Alcaraz found the back of the net off a pass from Erik Hernandez, giving the Chargers valuable breathing room. The match was put out of reach in the 85th minute when Gavin Lee slotted home the third goal following an assist from Erubey Bermudez, sealing the three-goal victory.
Defensively, Cypress was near perfect, allowing just one shot on goal the entire match. Goalkeeper Demian Baldovinos initiated the defense for most of the match, and Logan Bermudez closed out the game with 1 save.
Morales led the attack with four shots and an assist, while Flores, Alcaraz, and Lee each contributed goals. Hernandez and Bermudez each added assists to round out the offensive production.
Cypress now turns its attention to the upcoming postseason as one of the top teams in the conference. Their victory today marks the team in second place in the OEC.
