Bio

Andrew Alhadeff (pronounced Al-HAD-if) is entering his 11th season as Head Coach of the Cypress College Men’s Basketball Program. Over the past decade, Alhadeff has revitalized the Chargers, leading them to multiple 3C2A postseason appearances (‘16, ‘17, ‘20, ‘22, and ‘25) and their first playoff victory since 1997. He has reestablished Cypress as a competitive force in the Orange Empire Conference and a respected program statewide.

In his 10th season (2024-25), Alhadeff led the Chargers to a 23-10 overall record and 11-6 mark in conference play. The season was highlighted by a championship performance in the Monterey Bay Classic, a spot in the CCCMBCA Top 30 polls throughout the year, and a historic postseason run. As the No. 10 seed in the 3C2A SoCal Regionals, this marked the first time since 1990-91 that Cypress hosted a postseason game and advanced past the second round, a milestone achievement for the program.

Alhadeff has been instrumental in moving numerous players on to four-year universities, including:

  • Hayden Moore ‘19, Chapman University (NCAA DIII) – set school record for three-pointers in a season (98)

  • O’Shea Williams ‘17, Arizona Christian University (NAIA) – key member of the 2019-20 GSAC Tournament Championship team

  • Jeremy Wright ‘16, Texas A&M International (NCAA DII) – back-to-back All-Conference honoree

  • Denzel Tchougang ‘18, Siena College (NCAA DI) – member of the MAC Conference’s Saints

Alhadeff’s coaching philosophy emphasizes defensive excellence, ball movement, three-point shooting, and creative team-first basketball. His teams are consistently ranked among the Top 10 in California for defensive rating, and he takes pride in recruiting tough-minded, team-oriented, and academically driven student-athletes. The program maintains a strong academic focus, consistently striving for a 3.0 team GPA and placing high importance on graduation and transfer success.

Beyond the court, Alhadeff is deeply involved in student development. He served as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Advisor for four years, championing leadership, community involvement, and academic support before recently passing the torch to a new advisor.

Before his time at Cypress, Alhadeff spent eight seasons as Associate Head Coach at Irvine Valley College, helping guide the Lasers to a 169-73 record and back-to-back State “Elite 8” appearances in 2009-10 and 2010-11. He was responsible for defensive coordination, post player development, scouting, and recruiting. He also coached for the Newport-Irvine-Tustin (NIT) basketball club, where his teams frequently outperformed top-level club programs.

As a player, Alhadeff starred at the University of Redlands, where he was a four-year starter and team captain of the most prolific scoring team in NCAA basketball history, averaging 132.4 points per game in 2004-05. He finished fourth all-time in assists, led the SCIAC in assists (2004), and assist/turnover ratio (2004, 2005). He still holds the only recorded triple-double in Redlands history (14 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists).

Coach Alhadeff earned his B.A. in Sociology from the University of Redlands (2005) and a M.S. in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University (2009). Off the court, he is a full-time faculty member at Cypress College and was honored as the 2019-20 Faculty Member of the Year, reflecting his commitment to student success in both academics and athletics.

He enjoys spending time with his son Jason (age 10), daughter Peyton (5 months) and resides with his wife Breezi and dog Zoey in Anaheim, CA.
