Cypress Chargers Women’s Basketball Season Preview: Redemption
Cypress Chargers Women’s Basketball Ranked No. 20 in CCCWBCA Preseason Poll for 2024-25 Season
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress Chargers women's basketball team is set to open the 2024-25 season ranked No. 20 in the CCCWBCA Preseason State Top 25, led by Head Coach Brittany Imaku in her third season. Coach Imaku and her dedicated coaching staff, who have long been pillars in the Charger Family, are ready to guide the team through a season focused on redemption and resurgence.
Since joining Cypress as head coach, Coach Imaku has already made a remarkable impact, leading the Chargers to the Elite 8 in the 3C2A State Tournament in her first year. While last season proved challenging, Coach Imaku is optimistic about the journey ahead, calling this year the "Redemption Season." With eight returning players and a roster full of promising talent, she believes the team's sophomore leadership will play a crucial role in their success.
Among the returning players is standout All-OEC selection Journie Hayden, who will be a key force on the court. The Chargers also welcome Chelsea Caldera, making her debut this season and ready to add depth and intensity to the lineup. Coach Imaku emphasizes the importance of preseason challenges, stating, "The test for this team will come early in our preseason. We will face athletic teams, fundamentally sound teams, as well as well-rounded teams. Ultimately, these challenges will help us get ready for conference play."
The Chargers tip off their season at home on Saturday, November 2, against LA Southwest College. The team will also participate in the Fresno Crossover, host the annual Charger Classic, compete in the LA Valley Tournament, and close out their non-conference play in the San Jose City Tournament.
Entering the highly competitive Orange Empire Conference (OEC), the Chargers face a formidable challenge as they open against the defending 3C2A State Champions, the Orange Coast Pirates, on January 8 at 5:00 p.m. on the Pirates' home court. With the season set to bring its share of tests and triumphs, the Chargers are ready to compete with tenacity, aiming to make a significant impact both in the OEC and beyond.
