Chargers Defeat Dons in Double Overtime, 74-71
CYPRESS, CA - Cypress men’s basketball (8-10, 3-3 OEC) defeated the Santa Ana Dons (7-10, 1-4 OEC) in double overtime, 74-71.

The Chargers were off to a slow start as the trailed behind Santa Ana 8-0 until their first made basket. Cypress began to pick up the pace towards the end of the first half, but the Dons finished in the lead 20-29.
Halfway into the second half, Higgy Katoa drained a 3-pointer to take the first lead of the night for the Chargers 38-37. The Dons answered quickly and each team fought back-and-forth for the lead. Gabriel Navarro and Peyton Guerrero found their opportunity behind the arc and gave the team the energy they needed to gain momentum. In the last seconds of regulation, Guerrero went 1-1 at the line to tie the game 60-60 and forced overtime.
Guerrero had the fans out of their seats when he opened overtime with a dunk off of a fast break for the Chargers. The team tried to keep the lead, but the Dons were able to comeback and extend regulation to double overtime (64-64).
In double overtime, the game was tied 71-71 with less than a minute on the game clock. Cypress Point Guard, Higgy Katoa called game with a made 3-pointer for the victory in the final seconds of the game, 74-71.
