Cypress Wins Big Against District Rivals
CYPRESS, CA- Cypress women’s basketball (17-5, 5-1 OEC) won in dominant fashion against the Fullerton Hornets (10-12, 1-5 OEC), 78-50.

Cypress scored seven unanswered points off of three steals to start the game. The home team's relentless full court pressure forced an early timeout from Fullerton to calm the pace of the game. While the momentum was in the Chargers favor, the scoreboard reflected a close matchup. The first frame ended with a small lead for the Chargers, 22-15. Cypress worked to distance themselves by double-digits by eventually taking a 10-point advantage early in the second quarter. At the end of the half the Chargers led by 19-points, 42-23.
The second half brought more of the same with an onslaught of steals and rebounds by the home team. Near the end of the third frame, Cypress extended their already large lead to 65-33 to start the final quarter. With a 30-point lead, the Chargers worked to keep possession and played until the clock ran out. The Don Johnson Court fandom celebrated enthusiastically for the Chargers performance.
As the clock struck zero and the night came to an end, the Chargers finished on top, 78-50. It was a scoring affair shared with the entire squad for the home team box score. Ashley Hawkins put up 21 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Jasmine Uy and JoAnna Stroud each scored 16 points with 7 rebounds from Stroud and 4 from Uy. Alexcia Alvarez found the bucket for 14 points, 6 rebounds and five steals. The team tallied a total of 14 steals, 51 rebounds and 18 assists. The Chargers pulled out a team win for their fifth conference win. Competing at the top of the Orange Empire Conference, Cypress looks forward to their back-to-back road matchups.
UP NEXT: The Chargers will be visiting the Santa Ana Dons for their second and final matchup of the season. Tip-off will be at 6pm.
