August 23, 2024
CYPRESS, CA — Cypress College is proud to announce the appointment of Julia Reyes as the new Head Coach of the Women's Water Polo team. Reyes, who has been an integral part of the program for the past three years as an assistant coach, will now lead the Chargers into a new era of competition and success.
Reyes steps into her role at Cypress College with a wealth of experience and a strong coaching background. In addition to her time with the Chargers, she is currently serving as the Girls Water Polo Head Coach at Marina High School. Prior to Marina, Reyes led the Cypress High School Girls Water Polo team from 2021 to 2024, where she played a significant role in developing young talent and fostering a competitive spirit.
Her coaching career is built on an impressive foundation as a player. Reyes competed for four years at Arizona State University, where she was part of a Women's Water Polo program that consistently ranked in the top 10 nationally and made an NCAA tournament appearance during her freshman year. She graduated from ASU with a degree in Educational Studies.
Reyes' journey in water polo began at the age of 9 with the Cerritos Aquatics Club, and she continues to be involved in the sport, playing masters water polo with the LA Athletic Club and ASU's alumni team. A standout athlete at Cerritos High School, Reyes holds multiple program records, including most goals in a season and career, as well as most steals. She earned first-team All-League and All-CIF honors each year and was named an All-American Honorable Mention during her junior year. Additionally, she was part of three consecutive CIF championship teams with the Cerritos swim team and set a division record in the 200 Free Relay.
As the new Head Coach, Reyes aims to inspire young athletes to develop a love for water polo while building their confidence both in and out of the pool. Her vision includes strengthening the Water Polo community at Cypress College and guiding her players to success in the sport and beyond.
